Key features of the password generator

  • Generates passwords up to 128 characters
  • Customisable character sets: uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols
  • Excludes ambiguous characters option
  • Password strength indicator
  • Generates multiple passwords for comparison

How to use the password generator

  1. Set password length

Choose your desired password length — 16+ characters recommended for strong security.

  2. Select character types

Include uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols for maximum complexity.

  3. Generate password

Click 'Generate Password' to create a cryptographically random password.

  4. Check strength

Review the strength indicator — aim for 'Very Strong'.

  5. Save securely

Copy the password and save it in a password manager — do not store it in plain text.

What is a password generator?

The Password Generator creates cryptographically strong, random passwords with customisable length, complexity rules, and character requirements. It generates passwords that meet modern security standards — long, random, and resistant to brute-force and dictionary attacks.

Weak passwords are the leading cause of account compromises. A strong password should be at least 16 characters, contain uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols, and be completely random with no dictionary words. This generator creates passwords that meet or exceed these requirements.

Why use a password generator?

Human-chosen passwords are predictably weak — we use words, names, and dates that are easily guessed or cracked. A randomly generated password from a cryptographically secure source is exponentially harder to crack. This tool generates passwords you couldn't create manually and wouldn't want to — random and strong.

Password generator: frequently asked questions

Something else? Ask the team

How long should a password be?

At minimum, 12 characters for non-critical accounts. 16+ characters for important accounts. 20+ for critical accounts like email, banking, and admin access. Longer is always better.

Should I use symbols in passwords?

Yes. Including symbols (!@#$%^&*) significantly increases password entropy. A 12-character password with symbols has billions more possible combinations than one without.

Is this password generator secure?

Yes. Passwords are generated using the Web Crypto API (window.crypto.getRandomValues), a cryptographically secure random number generator. Passwords are generated in your browser and never sent to any server.

Should I use different passwords for every account?

Absolutely. Using the same password across multiple accounts means a breach of one service exposes all your accounts. Use a unique, randomly generated password for every account stored in a password manager.

What is password entropy?

Password entropy measures how unpredictable a password is, based on length and character set size. Higher entropy means harder to crack. A 16-character password with uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols has ~105 bits of entropy.
