An AI bot tracker records the visits AI engines send to your site. Add one tag, or switch it on in our WordPress plugin, and AI Rank Lab logs every visit from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity or Copilot, whether a person clicked through from an AI answer or an AI agent loaded the page, with the page, country and day.

What the AI bot tracker records
Four views of the same data, all in the AI Bots Tracker in the AI search workspace.
AI referral traffic, by engine
When someone clicks a link inside a ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude or Copilot answer, the visit carries that engine as its referrer. The tracker counts those visits per engine, so you can see which assistants actually send people to you.

AI agent visits and bot detection
AI agents that load your page in a browser and identify themselves in their user agent are flagged as AI bots, with the bot name and how it was detected (user agent or referrer).

Agents vs people: a referral is a person who clicked a link in an AI answer; an agent is an AI loading the page itself.
The pages AI sends people to
Page Analytics ranks the URLs that receive AI visits, so you can see which pages earn the click after an answer cites them, and which cited pages get none.

How AI bot tracking works
From domain to first data in a few minutes. No server access needed.
Most AI crawlers fetch your HTML without running JavaScript, so no JavaScript tracker (ours included) sees them. Here is what each kind of AI traffic looks like, and where to measure it.

A visit referred by chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com and similar
You add one script tag to your site (or enable it in our WordPress plugin). On every page view the tag checks the referrer and user agent for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot, and sends the visit to AI Rank Lab with the page, country, device and time. The AI Bots Tracker then groups those visits by engine, page, country and day.
Which AI bots can you detect?
The tag recognises ChatGPT and OpenAI agents, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot when they reach the page through a browser, either as a referral from an AI answer or as an agent that names the AI in its user agent. Crawlers that only download HTML, such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot and CCBot, do not run the tag; use your server or CDN logs for those.
Can you detect ClaudeBot and GPTBot?
Not reliably with a JavaScript tag, and we would rather say so. ClaudeBot and GPTBot fetch pages without running scripts, so any tag-based tracker misses most of their visits. Your server access logs or your CDN's bot reports show them. What our tracker does show is the traffic those engines send back to you: visits from people reading Claude and ChatGPT answers.
Do I need to install anything on my website?
Yes, one async script tag, the same way you would add an analytics tag. On WordPress you can skip the code: install the AI Rank Lab plugin, connect your API key and switch on the Visibility tracker.
Is there an AI bot tracker plugin for WordPress?
Yes. The AI Rank Lab WordPress plugin has a Visibility tracker toggle that adds the tracking tag to every page. The same plugin also publishes drafts from the AI content writer.
Can I detect AI bots in Google Analytics?
Partly. GA4 can show AI referrals if you add channel rules for sources such as chatgpt.com and perplexity.ai, but it filters known bots out and does not label AI agents. The AI Bots Tracker is built for this one job: it names the AI engine for every visit, separates people from agents, and ranks the pages AI sends traffic to. Many teams use both; our GA4 integration reports AI referral sources too.
Is it a search bot activity tracker for Googlebot and Bingbot?
No, it is built for AI engines. Crawlers that render JavaScript can trigger the tag and show up as bot visits, but they are not reported as a full crawl log. For Googlebot crawl activity, use the Crawl Stats report in Google Search Console; for every crawler, use your server or CDN logs.
Can I control which AI bots access my content?
Access is controlled by your robots.txt file, not by a tracker. Our free robots.txt generator lets you allow or block GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended and other AI user agents one by one, and the llms.txt tools help AI engines find your key pages.
How do I detect if an AI bot is scraping my site for training?
Check your server or CDN logs for training user agents such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot, CCBot and Google-Extended, and verify the requesting IP against the ranges each AI company publishes. Training crawlers do not run JavaScript, so a tag-based tracker cannot see them. Block them in robots.txt if you do not want your content used for training.
How often is the data updated?
Each visit is sent when the page loads and appears in the AI Bots Tracker the next time you open or refresh it. Pick any date range to see the daily trend.
What does AI bot tracking cost?
1 credit per 100 tracked requests, taken from your plan's credit balance. New accounts get 100 free credits with no card. If the balance reaches zero, tracking pauses and resumes automatically after you add credits.
