The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is Semrush's AI search tracking product: $99 per month per domain on its own, with 25 tracked prompts and one Brand Performance domain, or bundled into the Starter ($199), Pro+ ($299) and Advanced ($549) plans with 50, 100 and 200 daily prompts. It reports on ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity, but not every report covers every engine, and neither Claude nor Microsoft Copilot is a tracked answer engine. It is a sensible first AI visibility tool for teams already paying for Semrush, and a thinner fit for agencies with many brands or for teams that need help fixing what the reports find.

This review is built from Semrush's own knowledge base and pricing pages, checked on October 18, 2026, plus a close read of the 12 strongest reviews currently ranking for the toolkit. You get the verified prices and limits, an engine-by-report coverage map (Semrush's documents disagree with each other here, and we show where), what the scores actually measure, a cost-at-scale table, and a fair comparison with AI Rank Lab, Profound and Ahrefs Brand Radar.

Key takeaways

  • Price: $99/month per domain standalone (25 prompts, 1 Brand Performance domain), or bundled into Starter $199, Pro+ $299 and Advanced $549 a month with 50, 100 and 200 daily prompts. Prices checked October 18, 2026.
  • Watch the $139 SEO plan: its plan card mentions AI features, but Semrush's own comparison table shows no custom prompt tracking and no AI Visibility Overview on it.
  • Coverage differs by report: Perplexity appears only in the weekly Brand Performance report; Prompt Tracking covers ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Gemini. No report tracks Claude or Copilot answers.
  • Data is sampled and directional: a 317M+ prompt and response database captured from real requests, weekly Brand Performance snapshots and daily, desktop-only Prompt Tracking.
  • Costs scale in straight lines: +$99/month per extra Brand Performance domain, +$60/month per 50 prompts, and each extra user needs their own AI Visibility license.
  • Who it suits: existing Semrush users watching one or two brands. Teams that need tracking plus fixing, Claude coverage or many client brands should compare alternatives first.

What is the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit, and which plan is it in?

The AI Visibility Toolkit is a set of six reports inside Semrush that measure how often AI assistants mention and cite a brand compared with its competitors. Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit knowledge base article lists them as Visibility Overview, Competitor Research, Prompt Research, Brand Performance, Prompt Tracking and an AI Search Site Audit, and aims the toolkit at small businesses, agencies and mid-market companies. Larger organizations are pointed to Semrush's separate enterprise AI product.

There are two ways to buy it. You can subscribe to the toolkit on its own, sold as the "Base" plan on Semrush's AI Visibility pricing page and priced per domain. Or you can buy one of the combined "SEO + AI Search" plans (marketed as Semrush One), where the AI reports come bundled with the classic SEO toolkit: keyword research, Position Tracking, Site Audit and backlink data.

One ownership change matters for buyers on annual contracts: Semrush is now an Adobe company. Adobe completed the acquisition on April 28, 2026, and Semrush's customer FAQ on the acquisition says existing contracts, features and billing are unchanged for now while the two companies integrate. Packaging could still shift during a 12-month term, so check renewal terms before you sign.

How much does the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit cost?

On its own, the toolkit costs $99 per month per domain, and Semrush showed the same $99 on both the monthly and the annual billing toggle when we checked. Bundled, AI visibility starts in the Starter plan at $199 a month ($165.17 a month billed annually). Here is every plan that touches AI visibility, as listed on Semrush's SEO + AI Search pricing page on October 18, 2026.

PlanMonthly billingBilled annually (per month)Prompts tracked dailyAI reports per daySEO websites / tracked keywords
AI Visibility Base (standalone)$99 per domain$99 per domain25300None (AI reports only)

Pro+$299$248.1710030015 / 1,500
Advanced$549$455.6720030040 / 5,000
EnterpriseCustomCustomCustom, large-scaleCustomUnlimited projects

The standalone plan and Starter each include one domain for Brand Performance analysis. The knowledge base lists the rest of the standalone limits: 300 daily queries across the AI analysis reports, 1,000 daily Prompt Research queries, AI search checks on up to 100 pages in Site Audit, and 10 CSV exports a day of up to 1,000 rows each.

Add-ons: an extra Brand Performance domain is $99 per month, and 50 extra prompts are $60 per month. Extra users are where the bill grows quietly. Semrush's plan comparison lists seat fees of $45 per user on SEO and Starter, $80 on Pro+ and $100 on Advanced, and the toolkit's knowledge base says each additional user also needs their own $99 AI Visibility license.

Trials: the SEO, Starter and Pro+ plans carry Semrush's seven-day free trial (Advanced is subscribe-only). The standalone toolkit has no free trial, according to the knowledge base. The free Semrush account lists "AI Visibility features" within 10 reports a day, which is enough to look at the interface but not to evaluate the data.

Two quirks we found on the pricing pages that no ranking review mentions:

  • The SEO plan is not an AI tracking plan. Its plan card lists "Track performance in AI search" and "Monitor custom prompts", but the expanded comparison table on the same page shows "No" for custom prompts, AI Visibility Overview, AI share of voice and AI brand performance tracking. If AI tracking is the reason you are buying, start at Starter or the standalone toolkit.
  • Advanced has two versions. In one browser session the Advanced plan showed $549 a month with 200 prompts. A separate logged-out fetch of the same page that day showed Advanced as "Custom" with "Unlimited prompts to track daily". Semrush appears to be testing two versions of this tier, so get the Advanced price in writing.

What does it cost at realistic scale?

Because domains, prompts and users are each priced separately, the sticker price only holds for one brand and one person. We worked out the cheapest list-price route for common setups (our arithmetic, monthly billing, October 18, 2026):

Your setupCheapest Semrush routeMonthly cost
1 brand, up to 25 prompts, no SEO suiteStandalone Base$99
1 brand, 50 prompts, with SEO suiteStarter$199
1 brand, about 100 prompts, AI reports onlyBase + two 50-prompt packs (125 prompts)$219
1 brand, 100 prompts, with SEO suitePro+$299
1 brand, 200 prompts, with SEO suiteAdvanced (where shown at list price)$549
Agency: 5 brands in Brand Performance, AI reports onlyBase + 4 extra Brand Performance domains$495
Agency: 5 brands in Brand Performance, with SEO suiteStarter + 4 extra Brand Performance domains$595
Add a second teammate with AI accessExtra AI Visibility license, plus a seat fee on bundled plans+$99 (+$45 to $100 seat)

One open question to settle with sales before an agency rollout: Semrush's Prompt Tracking documentation describes the standalone limit as "25 prompts per account", while a third-party agency analysis by Trakkr reads it as 25 prompts per domain. Our table assumes the stricter per-account reading, so extra domains add Brand Performance coverage but not extra tracked prompts.

Which AI engines does the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit track?

It depends on the report. The standalone plan card promises "Mentions from ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, and Perplexity", but each report draws on a different dataset with its own engine list and refresh schedule. This map is assembled from Semrush's article on where the toolkit's data comes from, the Prompt Tracking documentation and the main toolkit article:

ReportEngines, per Semrush's docsUpdate cadenceWhere the data comes from
Visibility Overview, Competitor Research, Prompt ResearchChatGPT (search mode), Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI ModeDaily, rolling (one summary line says monthly)Semrush's prompt database: 317M+ prompts and responses
Brand PerformanceChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI ModeWeeklyA separate repository of queries linked to your domain
Prompt TrackingChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode, Gemini (the data-sources article also lists AI Overviews)Daily, desktop onlyYour own prompts, run through Position Tracking
AI Search Site AuditNot an answer tracker: checks access for eight AI crawlers, such as OAI-SearchBotEach time a crawl runsSemrush's own site crawler
Diagram of four report panels each wired to a different set of AI engine nodes, showing that AI visibility coverage changes from report to report

Three things follow from this map. First, Perplexity is only measured in the weekly Brand Performance report, so you cannot track your own Perplexity prompts day by day. Second, Claude and Microsoft Copilot are not tracked answer engines anywhere in the toolkit; Claude shows up only as a crawler the site audit checks for. If your buyers work inside Microsoft 365 or use Claude for research, that is a blind spot. Third, the lists keep moving. Profound's November 2025 review described Gemini as "coming soon" and listed six regional databases in English only, while Semrush's documentation today lists Gemini in Prompt Tracking and 117 regional databases. Treat any engine list older than a few months, including this one, as something to confirm inside the trial.

Where does Semrush get its AI visibility data?

Most of the toolkit runs on a prompt database Semrush builds itself, not on your customers' real conversations. According to Semrush's data-sources article, it gathers billions of prompts from AI search clickstream data and from Google's keyword dataset for AI Overviews, removes duplicates, simplifies the phrasing and groups prompts into topics. The answers are "captured from real requests and not via any APIs of LLMs", and ChatGPT answers come from the latest ChatGPT model in search mode. The database holds more than 317 million prompts and responses across 117 regional databases.

That is a sound approach, and Semrush documents it more openly than many suite vendors. But it means the Visibility Overview describes how a brand performs across a modeled sample of prompts that Semrush selected, not a census of what people asked. A data-accuracy analysis by Trakkr (a competing vendor) also flags that Semrush's public pages conflict on refresh timing, describing the prompt database as updated both daily and monthly, and that Prompt Tracking history starts only when you create a campaign, with no backfill.

How is the AI Visibility Score calculated?

The AI Visibility Score is a 0 to 100 benchmark that compares how often your brand is mentioned in AI answers with the median number of mentions earned by your top industry competitors, which Semrush identifies automatically. It is a relative score: if the automatically chosen competitor set is wrong for your market, the score moves even when your own visibility does not. Check which competitors Semrush picked before you report the number to anyone.

How much do weekly snapshots miss?

AI answers vary from run to run, so the sampling cadence matters. Across 968 runs of 42 prompt-engine pairs tracked in AI Rank Lab between February and October 2026, 42.9% of pairs flipped between mentioning and not mentioning the tracked brand at least once (full method in our AI answer stability study). A weekly Brand Performance snapshot can land on either side of that flip, so read it as a trend across four or more weeks rather than as week-over-week news. For Google surfaces specifically, Google's own Search Console Generative AI performance reports (launched June 3, 2026 and rolled out to all sites by August 31) show real impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode, which makes them a useful check on any third-party tracker, Semrush included.

What do the key reports show? A walkthrough in the order you would use them

Each report answers one question. Here is what each one does, based on Semrush's documentation, in a sensible first-week order.

Visibility Overview

Your starting baseline. It shows the AI Visibility Score, mentions and cited pages, a distribution by LLM showing which models mention you most, and mentions by country, with worldwide or regional views. Because it draws on Semrush's prompt database, you can run it for any domain, including competitors you have not set up as projects.

Competitor Research

Compares how AI platforms position you against up to four competitors and lists the prompts where a competitor is cited and you are not. This is the most actionable report in the toolkit, because each missing prompt points to a topic or source gap you can close.

Prompt Research

Keyword research for prompts: enter a topic and see AI topic volume, difficulty and intent, plus which brands appear. Semrush says topic volume combines third-party data on real AI interactions with its own machine-learning models, so treat volumes as relative sizes rather than exact counts. It is a good way to choose the 25 to 50 prompts you will track. For the mechanism behind why one prompt spawns many related searches, see our explainer on query fan-out.

Brand Performance

Share of voice, sentiment and the narratives AI assistants attach to your brand, with AI-generated strategy recommendations. It refreshes weekly, covers one domain per license, and its campaigns are automatically visible to eligible teammates, unlike the other reports, which need exports or My Reports to share.

Prompt Tracking

Your own prompt list, run every day in ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode or Gemini for a chosen location and language. Its metrics are AI Visibility, Mentions, Owned Sources, Topic Volume and Average Position, with a Sources report showing which pages get cited. You can import prompts from a TXT or CSV file. It supports desktop results only, and estimated traffic is not available.

AI Search Site Audit

An AI Search Health widget inside Site Audit that flags technical issues, such as robots.txt blocks, that could stop AI crawlers from reaching your pages. On the standalone plan it checks up to 100 pages.

A practical first-week sequence:

  1. Run Visibility Overview for your domain and two rivals to get a baseline score and mention count.
  2. Open Competitor Research and export the prompts where competitors are cited and you are not.
  3. Use Prompt Research to pick 25 to 50 prompts with real topic volume, mixing branded and non-branded questions.
  4. Load those prompts into Prompt Tracking for ChatGPT, then duplicate the campaign for AI Mode or Gemini.
  5. Set your Brand Performance domain carefully: Trakkr's agency analysis reports a 14-day cooldown before a domain slot can be changed.
  6. Run the AI Search Site Audit and fix any crawler blocks before reading too much into low scores.

What does the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit do well?

Its biggest strength is placement: AI visibility sits next to the SEO data a Semrush team already uses every day.

  • One login for SEO and AI. Prompt Tracking lives inside Position Tracking, so Google rankings and AI visibility sit side by side, and bundled plans add MCP access for pulling Semrush data into an AI assistant.
  • Prompt Research. Treating prompts like keywords, with volume, difficulty and intent, is a familiar model for SEO teams and makes prompt selection less of a guess.
  • Low cost per tracked prompt. 25 prompts run daily for $99 is inexpensive for daily data on ChatGPT and AI Mode.
  • Documented methodology. Semrush publishes where each report's data comes from, the size of the prompt database and how answers are captured. Many suite vendors publish less.
  • Competitor gap lists. Competitor Research turns a vague "we are less visible" into a list of specific prompts to work on.

What are the limitations of the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit?

The main limits are engine coverage, pricing that grows with every brand and user, and a diagnostic-only workflow.

  • Engine gaps. No Claude or Copilot tracking, and Perplexity only in a weekly report.
  • Linear pricing. Every extra Brand Performance domain is $99, every extra 50 prompts $60, and every extra person needs an AI Visibility license. Agencies feel this fastest.
  • Diagnosis, not fixes. The toolkit tells you where you are missing and offers recommendations. Writing, optimizing and publishing the content that closes the gap happens in other Semrush toolkits or other tools.
  • Inconsistent documentation. Engine lists, refresh timing and prompt allowances differ between Semrush's own pages, and between its pricing page variants.
  • Measurement constraints. Desktop only, no traffic estimates in Prompt Tracking, no history before your campaign starts, and a relative score that depends on an automatically chosen competitor set.
  • Thin third-party scrutiny. Most ranking reviews were written by competing vendors (including us) or by Semrush-owned Exploding Topics, which recommends Semrush. Independent accuracy testing of the toolkit has not been published.

How does it compare with AI Rank Lab, Profound and Ahrefs Brand Radar?

Semrush is the cheapest way to add AI tracking to an existing Semrush account. AI Rank Lab is built for tracking plus fixing without a full SEO suite, Profound is a sales-led enterprise platform, and Ahrefs Brand Radar is the closest like-for-like option for Ahrefs users.

AI Rank Lab runs your prompts on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity on a schedule (brand visibility tracking), checks Google AI Overviews and AI Mode separately, and connects the gaps it finds to an SEO/AEO/GEO audit, an Action Plan and a content workflow that can publish to WordPress. Plans are $69, $149 and $499 a month. Where Semrush is the better choice: if you need a large prompt set checked every single day alongside deep keyword and backlink data, Semrush's daily prompt allowance and SEO suite go further than AI Rank Lab's Starter credit budget.

Profound now shows only two options on its pricing page: a free trial (50 prompts run daily for 7 days on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews) and custom Enterprise packages with up to nine answer engines, SSO/SAML and SOC 2 compliance. Several ranking reviews still quote older self-serve Profound tiers that no longer appear. Where Profound is the better choice: regulated or very large brands that need the widest engine list, agent traffic analytics and enterprise controls.

Ahrefs Brand Radar is sold standalone from $199 a month or inside Ahrefs plans, according to Ahrefs' pricing page, which describes a database of 489 million+ prompts, plus custom prompt packages from $50 a month for 2,500 checks. Where Ahrefs is the better choice: teams already on Ahrefs, and anyone who needs Copilot coverage.

Who should choose the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit, and who should not?

Choose it if you already work in Semrush and need a credible AI visibility read on one or two brands. Look elsewhere if your buyers use Claude or Copilot, you manage many brands, or you need help fixing gaps rather than just finding them.

How to test it before you commit

Run the toolkit on the same prompts as any alternative, for at least a week, and compare against what you can see in the engines yourself.

  1. Write 25 to 50 prompts your buyers actually ask, split between branded and non-branded questions.
  2. Start the seven-day trial on the Starter or Pro+ plan (the standalone toolkit has no trial).
  3. Load the same prompts into Prompt Tracking and into the tool you are comparing, using the same location and language. To run the identical set across Claude and Perplexity as well, AI Rank Lab's AI visibility tracking can run it in parallel.
  4. Collect daily results for the full week and record the mention rate per prompt, expecting some prompts to flip between days.
  5. Confirm in the interface which engines Prompt Tracking offers for your location, and whether your first weekly Brand Performance report arrives inside the trial.
  6. Spot-check ten answers by hand in ChatGPT and AI Mode, and compare Google numbers with Search Console's Generative AI report.
  7. Price your real setup, including domains, prompt packs and users, with the cost table above.

If what you need after the test is a plan for winning the prompts you are missing, our guide to Semrush alternatives for AI search visibility covers the wider tool landscape.

How we researched this review

All Semrush prices, limits and engine lists come from Semrush's pricing pages and knowledge base, checked on October 18, 2026. Where Semrush's pages disagreed, we say so instead of picking one figure. We also read the 12 strongest ranking reviews of the toolkit, including those from Profound, AuthorityTech, Trakkr, Layer3 Labs, Dageno, Analyze AI and Exploding Topics, and used them only for leads we could verify against Semrush's own pages. We did not use a paid Semrush workspace for this review, so we describe report behavior from Semrush's documentation rather than from screenshots of our own account. The answer-stability figure comes from AI Rank Lab's anonymized tracking data. AI Rank Lab competes with Semrush in AI visibility tracking; we have tried to give Semrush full credit where it leads.

자주 묻는 질문

Is the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit included in Semrush One plans?▾
Yes. The Starter ($199/month), Pro+ ($299/month) and Advanced ($549/month) SEO + AI Search plans include the AI visibility reports with 50, 100 and 200 daily tracked prompts. The cheaper $139 SEO plan does not include custom prompt tracking or the AI Visibility Overview, according to Semrush's plan comparison table (checked October 18, 2026).
Does the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit have a free trial?▾
Not on its own. Semrush's knowledge base says the standalone $99 toolkit has no free trial, but the bundled Starter and Pro+ plans carry Semrush's seven-day free trial, which includes the AI visibility reports.
How many prompts can you track in Semrush?▾
25 prompts on the standalone toolkit, 50 on Starter, 100 on Pro+ and 200 on Advanced, each run daily in Prompt Tracking. Extra prompts cost $60 per month per 50. Enterprise plans offer custom, large-scale prompt tracking.
Does Semrush track Claude or Microsoft Copilot?▾
No. Semrush's documentation lists ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode across its reports, with Perplexity only in the weekly Brand Performance report. Claude appears only as an AI crawler the site audit checks for, and Copilot is not tracked.
How is the Semrush AI Visibility Score calculated?▾
It is a 0 to 100 benchmark comparing how often your brand is mentioned in AI answers with the median mentions of your top industry competitors, which Semrush identifies automatically. Because it is relative, check the competitor set before reporting the score.
How often does Semrush update AI visibility data?▾
Prompt Tracking updates daily (desktop results only), Brand Performance weekly, and the Visibility Overview, Competitor Research and Prompt Research reports on a daily rolling basis, although one Semrush page also describes monthly updates. The AI Search Site Audit updates whenever you run a crawl.
Is the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit worth it for agencies?▾
For a few client brands already managed in Semrush, yes. At scale the per-domain model adds up: five brands in Brand Performance cost $495 a month on the standalone toolkit or $595 on Starter, before extra users, each of whom needs their own AI Visibility license.
What are the best alternatives to the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit?▾
AI Rank Lab (our product) for tracking ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI features plus audits and content fixes from $69 a month; Profound for enterprise teams needing up to nine engines and compliance; and Ahrefs Brand Radar for Ahrefs users and Copilot coverage, from $199 a month standalone.
Did Adobe's acquisition change Semrush pricing?▾
Not yet. Adobe completed its acquisition of Semrush on April 28, 2026, and Semrush's customer FAQ says existing contracts, features and billing are unchanged for now while the companies integrate. Check renewal terms on annual contracts.
