Use the exact limit printed in your form's instructions. The result is a JPG of at most 20,000 bytes, so it passes forms that count a KB as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes.

Works in your browser. What you paste or upload is processed on your device.

Key features of the compress image to 20 KB

  • Batch of up to 30 images; files are never uploaded

What is a compress image to 20 KB?

Many Indian exam and recruitment portals ask for a signature and sometimes a photo under 20 KB, and reject anything bigger. This tool turns your scan or phone photo into a JPG of at most 20,000 bytes. It tries JPG quality settings from 95% down to 50% and keeps the highest one that fits, so you get as much sharpness as 20 KB allows rather than an arbitrarily blurry file.

A full-resolution phone photo can't reach 20 KB on quality alone, so when the lowest quality is still too big, the tool scales the picture down step by step until it fits, and shows the final pixel size, quality and exact byte count. If your form also fixes the dimensions (for example 140 × 60 px for a signature), turn on the exact pixel size: the image is centred and trimmed to that shape, never stretched, and then compressed.

A KB here means 1,000 bytes, so a file under the limit passes forms that count a KB as either 1,000 or 1,024 bytes. Very detailed photos at 20 KB will look soft: that is the limit's doing, not the tool's. The 20 KB preset is editable if your form says 10 KB or 30 KB instead.

Why use a compress image to 20 KB?

Getting a signature under 20 KB is one of the most common reasons an application stalls at the upload step. Doing it in the browser means your signature and ID photo stay on your device, which matters for documents that can be misused.

Compress image to 20 KB: frequently asked questions

Something else? Ask the team

How do I reduce my signature size to 20 KB?

Scan or photograph the signature on plain white paper, crop it closely, then choose the file here and press Compress to 20 KB. The tool finds the best JPG quality under 20 KB and scales the image down only if it has to.

Will the photo pass a form that wants 10–20 KB?

The tool aims for the highest quality under the limit, so results usually land just under it. If a form also has a minimum, check the size shown on the result; a very small or plain image may come out below it, in which case raise the pixel size.

Is 20 KB counted as 20,000 or 20,480 bytes?

Forms differ, so the tool uses the stricter 20,000 bytes. A file at or under that passes either way, and the result shows the exact byte count.

Why does my photo look blurry at 20 KB?

20 KB is very little data for a photo. To fit, the tool lowers quality and may reduce the pixel size. A closer crop helps, because fewer pixels are spent on background.

Can I do this on my phone?

Yes. It works in Chrome on Android and Safari on iPhone. iPhone HEIC photos are converted to JPG automatically.

Is my signature uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is processed by your browser on your device and never sent to our server. Only the start of a run is recorded, to count the daily free run.

Is it free?

You get one free run of this tool per day, no account needed, and one run covers the whole batch you process with one press of the button. After that, each run costs 5 credits, which needs a free AI Rank Lab account.
