Optionally enter your site name and theme colour for the web app manifest.

What is a favicon generator?

A favicon is the small icon in browser tabs, bookmarks, history and search results, and it also becomes the app icon when someone adds your site to a phone's home screen. Different places ask for different files, so a complete set is more than one image.

This generator takes one PNG, JPG, SVG or WebP and shows a large preview of your icon as soon as you choose it, a browser-tab mock in light and dark, and the icon at its real 16, 32 and 48 px sizes. Fit the image with padding or crop it to fill, keep a transparent background or pick a colour, and choose square, rounded or circular corners. You then get favicon.ico (16, 32 and 48 px inside), favicon-16x16.png, favicon-32x32.png, apple-touch-icon.png (180 px), android-chrome-192x192.png, android-chrome-512x512.png, a site.webmanifest and the HTML to paste into your page's head, all in one ZIP.

Limits: detailed logos and long wordmarks become unreadable at 16 px. A simple mark or a single letter works better, and the real-size preview shows you how it will look. For a sharp 512 px icon start from an SVG or an image at least 512 px wide. The Apple touch icon always gets a solid background, because iPhones show transparent areas as black. Google picks which favicon to show in search results itself and can take days to update it.

Why use a favicon generator?

A clear favicon helps people find your tab among a dozen others, makes bookmarks recognisable and gives your site a proper icon on phone home screens. Google also shows favicons next to mobile search results, so a blurry or missing one is visible to every searcher.

Which favicon sizes do I need?

For current browsers and phones: favicon.ico (with 16, 32 and 48 px), 16 and 32 px PNGs, a 180 px Apple touch icon, and 192 and 512 px icons for Android and installed web apps. This generator makes all of them in one go.

What should my favicon image look like?

Simple and bold. At 16 px, fine text and thin lines disappear, so use your logo mark or initial rather than the full wordmark. Check the real-size preview and the dark tab mock before you generate.

How do I add the favicon to my website?

Unzip the package, upload the files to the root folder of your site (where your home page lives), then paste the HTML snippet inside the <head> of your pages. On WordPress you can instead set a Site Icon under Appearance > Customize > Site Identity.

Why isn't my new favicon showing up?

Browsers cache favicons for a long time. Open the site in a private window or clear the cache to check. In Google Search the favicon updates when Google next crawls your home page, which can take days or weeks.

Can I make a favicon from an SVG?

Yes. An SVG is drawn fresh at every size, so even the 16 px icon stays sharp. The package contains PNG and ICO files that work in every browser.

Why does the Apple touch icon have a background when I chose transparent?

iPhones and iPads fill transparent areas of home-screen icons with black. To avoid that, the Apple touch icon gets a white background (or your chosen colour). iOS rounds its corners itself, so it stays square.

Is my logo uploaded anywhere?

No. All the icons are made in your browser and saved straight to your device.
