Webpage Size Checker

Measure the HTML size of any webpage in KB, with an estimated gzip size and a rating against 100 KB and 200 KB thresholds.

Webpage Size CheckerGratisTechnical SEOChecks a live URL

Enter a public URL. We fetch the live page and analyse what search engines and AI crawlers see.

Key features of the webpage size checker

  • Raw HTML size of any public URL, in KB
  • Estimated gzip-compressed size
  • Good, warning or very large rating (100 KB and 200 KB thresholds)
  • Free, with no sign-up

How to use the webpage size checker

  1. Enter the URL

Paste the full address of the page.

  2. Click Check Size

The tool fetches the page's HTML and measures it.

  3. Read the rating

Under 100 KB is fine; above that, look for what is making the HTML heavy.

  4. Find the heavy parts

View the page source and look for large inline scripts, styles, JSON data or SVG blocks.

  5. Fix and re-check

Move large inline code into cached files, trim embedded data, then run the check again.

What is a webpage size checker?

A webpage size checker measures how heavy a page is. This tool measures the HTML document of any public URL: it fetches the page and reports the raw HTML size in kilobytes and an estimated compressed (gzip) size. HTML is the first file a browser downloads, so a bloated document delays everything after it.

Reading the result: up to 100 KB of raw HTML is within the recommended range, 100–200 KB gets a warning, and more than 200 KB is flagged as very large. The gzip figure is an estimate (30% of the raw size); real compression depends on the content and the server. Large HTML usually comes from inline scripts and styles, embedded data such as big JSON objects from JavaScript frameworks, inline SVGs, or very long pages.

Limits: this measures the HTML only. It does not add up images, CSS, JavaScript or fonts, so it is not the total page weight. For the total, open the Network tab in your browser's developer tools or run PageSpeed Insights, which list every resource and its size. The page must respond within 15 seconds and be under 5 MB.

Why use a webpage size checker?

Page weight affects load time, especially on mobile connections, and HTML is on the critical path: the browser cannot render the page until it has parsed it. Checking the HTML size is a quick way to catch template bloat, inlined data and duplicated markup that also inflate every other page built from the same template.

Something else? Ask the team

Does this tool measure total page weight?

No. It measures the HTML document only. For the total weight including images, CSS, JavaScript and fonts, use the Network tab in Chrome DevTools (the transferred total at the bottom) or PageSpeed Insights.

What is a good webpage size?

Lighter is faster, and there is no single limit. As a rule of thumb, keep the HTML document under 100 KB, compress it with gzip or Brotli, and keep images, scripts and fonts only as large as the design needs.

What is the difference between page size and page weight?

They usually mean the same thing: the total bytes a browser downloads to show a page. Some people use page size for the HTML document alone, which is what this tool measures.

How do I reduce HTML size?

Move large inline scripts and styles into external files that browsers can cache, avoid embedding big data objects in the HTML, paginate very long lists, remove unused markup, and make sure your server compresses HTML.

Does page size affect SEO?

Indirectly. Google uses page experience signals, including Core Web Vitals, and heavy pages tend to load and respond more slowly. Googlebot also processes only the first 15 MB of an HTML file, though few pages come close.

Why is the gzip size an estimate?

The tool doesn't download the compressed response; it applies a typical saving to the raw size. Your server's real compression may be better or worse, and some servers don't compress at all. The HTTP header checker shows the content-encoding header your server sends.
