75%
Smallest fileBest quality

75% is a good balance for photos: hard to tell apart from the original, and much smaller.

Compressed copies don't carry the original's EXIF data (camera details and GPS location).

Works in your browser. What you paste or upload is processed on your device.

Key features of the image compressor

  • Compresses JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and AVIF images
  • Quality slider from 10% to 95%, with 75% as a balanced default
  • Keep the format or convert to JPG, WebP or AVIF while compressing
  • Optional longest-side limit (1080, 1600, 2000, 2560 px or your own)
  • Before/after comparison slider with 3× zoom for a single image
  • Batch of up to 30 images with total savings and a ZIP download
  • Hands back the original if re-compressing would make it bigger
  • Runs in your browser: files are never uploaded

How to use the image compressor

  1. Add your images

Tap or drop up to 30 JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC or AVIF images into the box. Each one is listed with a thumbnail.

  2. Set the quality

Leave quality at 75% for photos or lower it for smaller files. The slider is disabled for PNG output, which is lossless.

  3. Pick the output format

Keep each file's format, or choose WebP or AVIF for the smallest files. Turn on the size limit to scale down very large photos.

  4. Compress and compare

Press Compress. You see the size before, after and saved; with one image, drag the divider to compare quality.

  5. Download

Download each image, or all of them as one ZIP file.

What is an image compressor?

An image compressor makes a photo or graphic take up fewer bytes so it loads faster, attaches to email and fits upload limits. This one re-encodes each image in your browser at the quality you choose. JPG, WebP and AVIF are lossy formats: they throw away detail your eye barely notices, which is where the big savings come from. At the default 75% quality, a full-quality phone photo usually shrinks a lot and is hard to tell apart from the original. A before/after slider with a 3× zoom lets you check for yourself when you compress a single image.

You can keep each file's format or convert as you compress. WebP is usually smaller than JPG at the same visual quality and keeps transparency; AVIF is smaller still but takes a few seconds per photo to encode. iPhone HEIC photos are decoded in the browser and saved as JPG (or the format you pick). An optional longest-side limit, for example 2000 px, scales oversized camera photos down, which often saves more than any quality setting.

Honest limits: PNG is lossless, and this tool has no lossless PNG optimiser, so re-saving a PNG as PNG rarely gets smaller. For screenshots and graphics choose WebP (keeps transparency) or JPG (transparent areas turn white) for real savings. If a re-encoded file in the same format comes out bigger than the original, the original is handed back untouched. Compressed copies don't keep EXIF data such as camera details and GPS location.

Why use an image compressor?

Images are usually the heaviest part of a web page and the most common reason an upload or email bounces. Compressing them before you publish or send cuts load time and storage without a visible drop in quality, and doing it in the browser means private photos, ID scans and client work never pass through someone else's server.

Image compressor: frequently asked questions

Something else? Ask the team

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The images are decoded and re-encoded by your browser on your own device. Our server is only told that a run of the tool started, so it can count the daily free run; the files themselves never leave your phone or computer.

How do I compress an image without losing quality?

Keep quality around 75–85% for JPG or WebP. At those settings the loss is very hard to see, and you can check with the before/after slider and 3× zoom. Truly lossless compression only applies to PNG, and this tool has no lossless PNG optimiser; converting a photo PNG to WebP or JPG gives far bigger savings with no visible change.

Why did my PNG barely get smaller?

PNG stores every pixel exactly, so re-saving it as PNG changes little. Choose WebP output to keep transparency which for photos often makes the file several times smaller, or JPG if you don't need transparency (transparent areas become white).

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. It runs in Safari, Chrome and other modern mobile browsers. On iPhone, photos picked from your library arrive as HEIC and are saved as JPG unless you choose WebP or AVIF.

Should I choose JPG, WebP or AVIF?

JPG opens everywhere and is the safe choice for email and forms. WebP is smaller at the same quality and works in every current browser, so it suits websites. AVIF is the smallest but slower to create, and a few older apps can't open it.

Can I compress many images at once?

Yes, up to 30 images of up to 50 MB each in one batch. The result shows the total saved, and you can download everything as a single ZIP.

Is the image compressor free?

You get one free run of this tool per day, no account needed, and one run covers the whole batch you process with one press of the button. After that, each run costs 5 credits, which needs a free AI Rank Lab account.

Does compression remove EXIF and location data?

Yes. The compressed copy is a fresh file without the original's EXIF metadata, so camera details and GPS location are not carried over. Your original file is not changed.
