What is an add border to image?

This tool adds a solid border around your photos. Set the width, pick any colour (white, black, cream and other presets, or your own), and round the corners if you want a softer look. The polaroid option adds a deeper bottom margin, like an instant photo, and can write a short caption in it.

Widths can be set in pixels or as a percentage of each photo's shorter side. Percent is the default because it gives a batch of different-sized photos the same look: a 4% border looks the same on a small screenshot as on a 12-megapixel photo. You can frame up to 30 images in one run and download them one by one or as a ZIP. The photo itself is not cropped; the border is added around it, so the image gets larger by the border's size. Photos up to about 16.7 megapixels keep their full size; bigger ones (such as 24 or 48 MP phone shots) are scaled down to that, the most a browser canvas can safely hold.

Rounded corners need transparency, so on Auto the tool saves them as PNG; if you choose JPG, the corners are filled with white. The caption uses one plain font and the same text for every image in the batch. Everything happens in your browser, so your photos are never uploaded.

Why use an add border to image?

A white or coloured border gives photos a clean, finished look in a feed, lets a portrait photo sit inside a square post without Instagram cropping it, and turns everyday shots into polaroid-style prints. Doing the same in a photo editor means resizing the canvas for every picture; here the same frame goes on a whole batch in one go.

How do I add a white border to a photo?

Add the photo, leave the colour on white and set the width (4% of the photo is a good start), then press Add border. The photo isn't cropped; the white frame is added around it.

What border width looks good?

For photos in a feed, 2% to 5% of the photo is subtle and clean. The polaroid look uses about 4% on the top and sides with roughly 18% extra at the bottom, which are the starting values here. Very wide borders work well in a contrasting colour.

Can I add a border to many photos at once?

Yes, up to 30 images in one run. With the width in percent, every photo gets a border in proportion to its size, so the batch looks consistent.

Why are the rounded corners white in my JPG?

JPG files can't be transparent, so the area outside the rounded corners is filled with white. Choose PNG or WebP (or leave the format on Auto, which picks PNG when corners are rounded) to keep those corners transparent.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The border is drawn in your browser and the files are saved straight from it. Our server only counts runs for the daily free limit.

Is adding a border free?

You get one free run per tool per day, and one run can frame up to 30 photos. After that, each run costs 5 credits from a free AI Rank Lab account. Changing options and previewing is always free.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Choose photos from your library in Safari or Chrome, adjust the border and download. iPhone HEIC photos are supported.

Will the border reduce the quality of my photo?

No. The photo is copied into a slightly larger image with the border around it, without resizing. Save as PNG to keep every pixel exactly, or JPG at 92% quality for a smaller file that looks the same. Photos over about 16.7 megapixels (for example 48 MP phone shots) are scaled down to that first, the most a browser can safely draw.
