An ICO file is a small container that holds the same icon at several sizes, so Windows and browsers can pick the sharpest one for each place it appears: 16 px in a browser tab, 32 or 48 px in lists and on the taskbar, 256 px on the desktop. Renaming a PNG to .ico does not make one.
This tool builds a genuine multi-size ICO in your browser. Choose any of 16, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 px; each size is scaled from your image in steps for clean small icons, saved as a PNG with full transparency, and written into the ICO container. Non-square images are either fitted with transparent edges or cropped to a square. SVG logos are drawn fresh at every size, so even 16 px stays crisp. Convert up to 30 images per run, one .ico per image.
Limits: icons are stored as PNG entries, which Windows Vista and later, macOS and every current browser read. Windows XP and some very old software only read bitmap icons. A source image smaller than the largest size you pick is enlarged and looks soft, and the preview tells you when that happens.
