What is an add text to image?

This editor puts text on top of a photo: a caption, a title for a thumbnail, a price on a product shot or a date on a flyer. Add as many text layers as you need. Each one has its own font (web-safe fonts plus Google Fonts such as Montserrat, Oswald, Playfair Display, Bebas Neue and Caveat), size, colour, bold, italic and capitals, alignment, an outline, a drop shadow, opacity, rotation and an optional wrap width for longer lines.

Drag any text on the preview to move it. If you prefer exact values, or use a keyboard, type its position in percent from the left and top, or select the preview and nudge the chosen text with the arrow keys. The preview is a scaled-down copy for speed; the download is drawn again at the photo's full resolution, so the text is sharp.

Limits: the text is merged into the picture, so it can't be edited again after download unless you go back with Keep editing in the same visit. Text effects are kept simple (outline, shadow, opacity); there are no curved paths or gradients. Photos above about 16.7 megapixels are scaled down to that size, and the saved file doesn't keep the original EXIF data.

Why use an add text to image?

Most "add text" jobs don't need a full design app: you want the words in the right place, in a readable font, with an outline or shadow so they stand out on a busy photo. Doing it in the browser is quick on a phone or laptop, and the photo stays on your device.

Add text to image: frequently asked questions

Something else? Ask the team

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The text is drawn by your browser on your device, and the finished picture is saved straight from it. Our server is only told that a run happened, to count your free daily run. If you pick a Google Font, your browser downloads that font from Google Fonts; your photo is never sent.

Can I add more than one piece of text?

Yes. Press Add text as often as you like. Each layer has its own font, size, colour, outline, shadow, rotation and position, and you can duplicate a styled layer to reuse its look.

How do I make text readable on a busy photo?

Turn on an outline in a contrasting colour (white text with a black outline is the classic choice) or a drop shadow, and use a bold font. Raising the size a little helps more than any effect on small screens.

Can I place text precisely without dragging?

Yes. Each layer has From left and From top inputs in percent, and a Centre button. You can also select the preview and move the chosen text with the arrow keys, holding Shift for bigger steps.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. It runs in mobile Safari and Chrome; you can drag text with your finger and type positions on the keyboard. iPhone HEIC photos open directly.

Will the downloaded image be the same size as my photo?

Yes, up to about 16.7 megapixels; larger photos are scaled down to that size so phones can process them. Text sizes are measured in pixels of the full-size photo, so the download matches the preview.

Is it free?

You get one free run per tool per day; a run is the download. After that, each download costs 5 credits with a free AI Rank Lab account. Typing, styling and moving text are always free.
