Conversion

Start with Fast: it moves the same video into an MP4 file, so quality and size stay the same. If the MP4 won't play on an older Windows PC, a TV or a site that rejects HEVC, use Most compatible. It re-encodes to H.264, which plays almost everywhere, but it can take longer than the video itself.

Works in your browser. What you paste or upload is processed on your device.

Key features of the MOV to MP4 converter

  • Fast mode copies the video into MP4 without re-encoding, so quality and size stay the same
  • Most compatible mode re-encodes to H.264 and AAC, with an optional 1080p or 720p cap
  • Keeps HEVC from iPhones playable on Apple devices (hvc1 tag) and keeps the recording date
  • Converts up to 10 MOV files per run, up to 500 MB each, with a ZIP download
  • Shows progress, time left and a Cancel button, then a preview of the MP4
  • Runs in your browser with FFmpeg (WebAssembly): files are never uploaded

How to use the MOV to MP4 converter

  1. Choose your MOV files

Tap the box and pick one or more MOV videos, or drag them in. On iPhone, pick them from Photos or Files.

  2. Pick a mode

Leave Fast, no quality loss selected. Switch to Most compatible only if the MP4 won't play where you need it.

  3. Convert

Press Convert to MP4. The first run downloads the video engine (about 31 MB) once, then the conversion starts.

  4. Check and download

Play the preview, then download the MP4, or all files as a ZIP when you converted several.

What is an MOV to MP4 converter?

MOV is Apple's QuickTime container, the format every iPhone and Mac camera saves video in. MP4 is the same family of container with wider support: Windows, Android, smart TVs, editors and upload forms that refuse .mov files all accept MP4. Inside the file, an iPhone video is usually HEVC (H.265) or H.264 with AAC sound, and both can live in an MP4 unchanged.

This converter runs FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser, so the video is never uploaded. Fast mode copies the video and sound streams into a new MP4 without re-encoding: the picture is bit-for-bit the same and a long clip finishes in seconds. HEVC streams are tagged hvc1 so Apple devices and QuickTime recognise them. Most compatible mode re-encodes the picture to H.264 with AAC sound, which plays on almost any device, with an optional cap at 1080p or 720p.

Limits: files up to 500 MB each, 10 per batch. Re-encoding runs on one processor core in the browser, so compatible mode can take longer than the video itself, especially for 4K. HDR (Dolby Vision) clips re-encoded to H.264 are saved as standard range without tone mapping, so their colours can look flatter; fast mode keeps HDR as it is. ProRes MOV files can't be copied into MP4, so they are re-encoded automatically.

Why use an MOV to MP4 converter?

Plenty of places still reject or mishandle .mov files: Windows Media Player without the HEVC extension, older Android phones, some smart TVs, and website upload forms that only list MP4. Converting the container fixes most of those cases without touching the picture, and because the work happens on your device, private family videos and client footage never pass through someone else's server.

Does converting MOV to MP4 lose quality?

Not in Fast mode. It copies the existing video and sound into an MP4 container without re-encoding, so the picture is identical and the file size barely changes. Most compatible mode re-encodes to H.264, which loses a little detail, as every re-encode does.

Which mode should I choose, Fast or Most compatible?

Try Fast first. If the MP4 plays where you need it, you are done. If an older Windows PC, a TV or a website still refuses it, the video inside is probably HEVC: use Most compatible, which re-encodes to H.264, the format nearly every device can play.

How do I convert an iPhone video to MP4 on the iPhone itself?

Open this page in Safari, tap the box, choose the video from your Photos library and press Convert to MP4. When it finishes, tap Download and save it to Files. Fast mode works well on phones; re-encoding long videos is much quicker on a computer.

Are my videos uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser with FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. The video never leaves your device; our server only counts the run for the daily free limit.

Is there a file size limit?

Each video can be up to 500 MB, and you can convert up to 10 per run. Very large files need a lot of browser memory, so on a phone, videos of a few hundred MB may fail; a computer handles them better.

Why does my converted MP4 look washed out?

Recent iPhones record HDR (Dolby Vision). Fast mode keeps HDR as it is, but Most compatible mode saves standard-range H.264 without tone mapping, so bright HDR colours can look flatter. Use Fast mode when the device you are sending to supports HEVC.

Is the MOV to MP4 converter free?

Each tool gives you one free run per day. After that, a run costs 10 credits from a free AI Rank Lab account. One run is one press of the main button, so converting several files together counts once.
