An animated GIF stores every frame as a separate 256-colour image, which makes it heavy. An MP4 stores the same animation as H.264 video, which only records what changes between frames, so the file is usually several times smaller, and it plays in places that don't accept GIFs, such as Instagram posts, Stories, TikTok and video players.
This tool converts GIFs to MP4 in your browser with FFmpeg. It keeps the GIF's own frame timing, encodes H.264 at high quality in the yuv420p format every phone and browser plays, rounds odd sizes to even numbers as H.264 requires, and moves the index to the front of the file so it starts playing straight away. Because a GIF loops forever and an MP4 plays once, you can repeat the animation 2, 3 or 5 times inside the video.
Limits: MP4 has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white or black (your choice). The video has no sound. GIFs up to 500 MB, 10 per run.
