A Word to Markdown converter turns a Microsoft Word document (.docx) into Markdown, so you can publish it in a README, a docs site, a static site generator or any CMS that accepts Markdown. Drop a .docx file here and the Markdown appears with a preview, ready to copy or download as a .md file or as README.md.
Headings that use Word's Heading styles (and the Title and Subtitle styles) become # headings. Bold, italic, strikethrough, links, bulleted and numbered lists (including nested ones) and tables are kept, and tables come out as GitHub Flavored Markdown pipe tables. Images can become placeholder links (image-1.png, image-2.png… so you can add the files to your repo), be embedded as Base64 data, or be removed.
Limits: it reads .docx only. Old .doc files need to be saved as .docx in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs first. Headings typed as big bold text rather than with a Heading style come through as bold paragraphs, so apply Heading styles in Word for the best result. Merged table cells, text boxes, comments, tracked changes and page layout have no Markdown equivalent and are dropped; the converter lists the Word styles it couldn't map.
