AI-referred traffic
DefinitionAI-referred traffic is people who arrive on your site by clicking a link in an AI answer, from assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity or Copilot.
These are human visitors, so JavaScript analytics see them. They usually arrive with a referrer such as chatgpt.com or perplexity.ai, and ChatGPT links often carry utm_source=chatgpt.com. Some clicks from apps arrive with no referrer and are counted as Direct, so referral figures are a floor.
AI Rank Lab's AI bot tracker and GA4 both show this traffic. See Track AI referral traffic in GA4.
