Songs from Apple Music and other streaming apps are copy-protected and can't be used. Pick a song file you own, a voice memo, or a video. On iPhone, save the file to the Files app first, then choose it here.

How to put the ringtone on your phone

On iOS 26 or later you can add a tone of 30 seconds or less from the Files app. Longer tones (up to 40 seconds), or older iOS versions, need a computer or GarageBand.

iPhone with iOS 26 or later (no computer, 30 s or less)
  1. Make the ringtone on the iPhone in Safari and tap Download. The .m4rfile is saved to Files > Downloads.
  2. Open the Files app, find the file in Downloads and touch and hold it (or open it), then tap Share.
  3. Scroll down the share sheet and tap Use as Ringtone. If you don't see it, tap More or Edit Actions at the bottom of the list.
  4. Open Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone and pick it. It is listed above the Apple ringtones.
iPhone + Mac (Finder)
  1. Connect the iPhone to your Mac with a cable and unlock it. Tap Trust if the iPhone asks.
  2. Open Finder and click your iPhone in the sidebar, under Locations.
  3. Drag the .m4r file from your Downloads folder onto the iPhone window (the General tab). Nothing appears to happen, but the tone is copied in a second or two.
  4. On the iPhone, open Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone. Your tone is at the top of the list, above the Apple ringtones.
iPhone + Windows PC (iTunes)
  1. Install iTunes from the Microsoft Store, connect the iPhone with a cable and tap Trust on the iPhone.
  2. In iTunes, click the small iPhone button near the top left.
  3. Under On My Device, click Tones and drag the .m4r file into the list. If there is no Tones item, drop the file onto On My Device.
  4. On the iPhone, open Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone and pick it.
iPhone on iOS 18 or older, no computer (GarageBand)
  1. GarageBand imports MP3 and M4A more reliably than .m4r, so for this route choose Android (.mp3)above and download that file. It is saved to Files > Downloads.
  2. Install GarageBand (free, from Apple) and start a new song with the Audio Recorder.
  3. Tap the tracks view button, then the loop button (top right) > Files > Browse items from the Files app, and choose your MP3. Drag it onto the track so it starts at the very beginning.
  4. Tap the arrow at the top left > My Songs. Long-press the song, tap Share > Ringtone, give it a name and tap Export. If GarageBand says it is too long, let it shorten the tone (it may cut it to 30 seconds).
  5. Tap Use sound as… > Standard Ringtone.
Android
  1. Download the MP3 version (choose Android (.mp3) above). It lands in your Downloads folder.
  2. Open Settings > Sound (or Sound & vibration) > Phone ringtone, then tap Add, + or My sounds and pick the file. Menu names differ between phone makers.
  3. If your phone has no add button, move the file into the Ringtones folder with the Files app, then choose it in Settings.

Works in your browser. What you paste or upload is processed on your device.

What is an iphone ringtone maker?

iPhones only accept custom ringtones in the .m4r format: AAC audio in an MP4 container, at most 40 seconds long. This tool turns a song, a voice memo or a video's soundtrack into exactly that. Drag the handles on the waveform to pick the part you want (the first 30 seconds are selected to start), press Play selection to hear it with its fades, and save it as an .m4r ringtone, or as an MP3 if you have an Android phone.

Picking the part and previewing happen instantly in your browser. The .m4r is encoded with an ffmpeg audio engine that runs in the page; it downloads once (about 30 MB) the first time you make a ringtone and is cached after that. Your audio is never uploaded. A short fade in and a longer fade out are on by default so the tone doesn't start or stop abruptly.

Honest limits: a website can't set your ringtone for you. On iOS 26 or later you add the downloaded .m4r yourself from the Files app (Share > Use as Ringtone), and that route only accepts tones of 30 seconds or less. Longer tones, up to 40 seconds, and iPhones on older iOS versions need Finder on a Mac, iTunes on Windows, or GarageBand; the page shows each route step by step. Copy-protected Apple Music songs can't be used.

Why use an iphone ringtone maker?

A custom ringtone makes your phone easy to recognise in a room full of iPhones, but Apple's own route goes through GarageBand or old iTunes tricks. Here you pick the exact moment on a waveform, hear it before you save, and get a file in the right format with clear install steps, without sending your music to anyone's server.

Iphone ringtone maker: frequently asked questions

Something else? Ask the team

How long can an iPhone ringtone be?

Up to 40 seconds when you copy it from a computer with Finder or iTunes, and this tool won't let the selection go over that. Adding it on the iPhone itself through Files > Share > Use as Ringtone (iOS 26 or later) only works for 30 seconds or less, which is also the limit for text and alert tones, so the editor selects 30 seconds to start.

How do I put the ringtone on my iPhone?

On iOS 26 or later: download the .m4r in Safari, open it in the Files app, tap Share and choose Use as Ringtone (tap More if it isn't listed). With a computer: on a Mac, select the iPhone in the Finder sidebar and drag the .m4r onto its window; on Windows, open iTunes, click the iPhone button, choose Tones and drag the file in. Then go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone, where it appears at the top of the list.

Can I add a ringtone without a computer?

Yes. On iOS 26 or later, keep the tone to 30 seconds or less, download the .m4r and use Share > Use as Ringtone in the Files app. On older iOS versions, use Apple's free GarageBand app: save the MP3 version from this page, import it into a GarageBand song, share the song as a Ringtone and choose Use sound as Standard Ringtone. GarageBand may shorten tones longer than 30 seconds.

I downloaded the .m4r on my iPhone. Why isn't it in my ringtones yet?

Downloading only saves the file to Files > Downloads; iOS doesn't add it to your ringtones by itself. On iOS 26 or later, open it in Files and tap Share > Use as Ringtone; the option is missing on older versions and refuses tones over 30 seconds. Otherwise copy it in with Finder or iTunes, or use GarageBand.

Can I use a song from Apple Music or Spotify?

No. Streaming songs are copy-protected and aren't real files on your phone. Use a song file you own (MP3 or M4A), a voice memo, or a video you recorded.

Is my music uploaded?

No. Decoding, previewing and encoding the ringtone all happen in your browser. Only a usage count for the daily free export is sent to our server.

Does it work for Android?

Yes. Choose Android (.mp3), make the ringtone, then in Settings > Sound > Phone ringtone tap Add or + and pick the file. Android has no 40-second limit, but the editor keeps it to 40 seconds here.

Is it free?

You get one free export per day. Loading the file, moving the selection, previewing and changing options don't count; only the export button does. After the free export, each one costs 5 credits (5 US cents) from a free AI Rank Lab account.
