An archive (ZIP, RAR, 7z, TAR or GZ) bundles many files into one compressed file. To use what is inside, you have to extract it. Windows and macOS open ZIPs on their own, but RAR and 7z need extra software, and phones and work laptops often can't install it.
This tool opens the archive inside your browser with libarchive, the same open-source library behind the tar and unzip tools on many systems, compiled to WebAssembly. As soon as you choose an archive it lists every file and folder, with sizes, before you spend anything. Press Extract and each file becomes downloadable on its own; you can also download a single folder or the whole archive again as a ZIP. Encrypted ZIP (ZipCrypto and AES), 7z and RAR archives ask for their password, which is used only in your browser tab.
Limits: archives up to 1 GB. Everything is unpacked into your browser's memory, so large archives work best on a computer. Multi-part archives (.part1.rar, .z01) and a few rare RAR features are not supported, and damaged archives may extract only partly.
You often get archives from people you work with: invoices, photo sets, project files. Uploading them to an unknown "online unzipper" hands that data to someone else. Here the archive is opened on your own device, which is private, works for RAR and 7z without installing anything, and lets you grab just the one file you need.

Yes, if you know the password. ZIP files with ZipCrypto or AES encryption, encrypted 7z and encrypted RAR archives ask for it. The tool can't recover or guess a forgotten password.
Up to 1 GB. The files are unpacked into your browser's memory, so phones may struggle with archives of several hundred MB. A computer handles large archives best.
The file may be damaged or only partly downloaded, it may be one part of a multi-part archive (.part1.rar, .z01), or it may not be an archive at all despite its name. Download it again, and for multi-part archives use desktop software.
Yes. After extracting, every file has its own Download button, and each folder can be downloaded on its own as a ZIP. The preview list also shows sizes so you know what you are getting.
