In shortThe Citations page (AI search → Brand visibility → Citations) lists every URL and domain the engines cited in your prompt runs. Use Cited URLs to see the exact pages, Referring Domains to see which sites AI trusts, Citation Gaps to find prompts where others were cited and you weren't, and Platform Breakdown to compare engines. The third-party pages on the list are the ones worth getting your brand onto.

Why citations matter

A mention is the engine saying your name. A citation is the engine pointing at a page as its source. Citations show you what each engine reads before it answers. If the same review site, comparison article or Reddit thread keeps appearing for your prompts, that page shapes what AI says about your category. You have two ways in: publish a page good enough to be cited itself, or get mentioned on the pages that already are.

Before you start

Citations come only from runs you've already made. If the page is empty, run a few prompts first (Run prompts across AI engines). Reading this page costs nothing.

Read the page, step by step

  1. Open Citations and pick a rangeGo to AI search → Brand visibility → Citations. The page is titled AI Citations Intelligence. Choose 7d, 14d, 30d, 90d or All time, or set your own start and end dates.
  2. Check the headline cardsTotal Citations and Unique Cited Domains show how many sources the engines used. Your Brand Citations is how often your own site was one of them. Citation-Triggering Queries counts the prompts that produced sources.
  3. Look at the Source Ecosystem MixThis bar splits the cited domains into Your Brand Website, Direct Competitors, Community (Reddit/Quora), Media & Editorial and Reference & Documentation. A large community or editorial share tells you engines lean on third-party opinion for your topic.
  4. Open the Cited URLs tabEvery cited page, with a category tag (Your Brand, Competitor, Community / UGC, Media / Editorial, Reference / Docs), the prompts that cited it and when it was last seen. Search with Search URLs or titles..., filter by engine, or pick one prompt.
  5. Open Referring DomainsThe same data rolled up by site. Use Search domain names... and the category filter to list, for example, only community sites.
  6. Open Citation GapsEach row is a prompt where other sites were cited and your site wasn't: Prompt Query (Competitor Won), Competitors Cited, Citing Platforms and Citation Frequency. Copy Query copies the prompt so you can take it to Action plan.
  7. Compare engines in Platform BreakdownEngine Source Density Comparison shows how many unique sources each engine cites. It helps you decide which engines to focus on first.
"Competitor" means "anyone else"

The page tags your own domain, plus a built-in list of well-known community, media and reference sites. Every other domain is tagged Competitor, including a supplier's blog, a government page or a niche directory. Citation Gaps uses the same rule. Read the domain names before treating a row as a rival.

Turn the list into actions

What you seeWhat to do
A review or comparison article cited for many promptsAsk to be included, pitch the author, or make sure your listing on that site is complete and current
Reddit, Quora or forum threadsTake part genuinely where your product helps. Don't spam; engines and moderators both notice
A competitor's own page cited oftenStudy its structure and facts. Write a better answer to the same question with Action plan
Your page cited on one engine, not othersCheck the page's structure and freshness with the AEO and GEO checker
Wikipedia or documentation sitesMake sure facts about your brand there are accurate. Engines repeat them
Dates are whole UTC days

When you pick a start and end date, each date covers that whole day in UTC. A run from late evening in the Americas may fall on the next date.

Use the export menu to download the cited URLs, the referring domains, or both as CSV files. That's a quick way to build an outreach list.

Check yourself

1. What's the difference between a mention and a citation?
2. The Cited URLs tab tags a local government page as Competitor. Why?
3. A comparison article on a review site is cited for eight of your prompts and doesn't mention you. What's the best move?
