In shortProgress reports compare two points in time for one website, or the website against a competitor, using data you already have. Open AI search → Monitoring and reports → Progress reports, choose Website audit or AI visibility, choose An earlier report or A competitor, then pick the two reports. Comparisons and snapshots are free and never run anything live; only the optional Run audit button costs credits.

What a comparison is for

Clients and managers ask one question every month: did it work? A progress report answers it by putting two measurements side by side and marking each check as fixed, improved, unchanged or worse. You can compare a site with itself over time (before and after your changes) or with a competitor (who is ahead, and where).

It doesn't measure anything new. It reads audits and prompt runs already stored in your account. If the data isn't there, the report can't invent it.

Before you start

  • For a website audit comparison: two AEO and GEO checker reports of the same page, one from before your changes and one from after. The comparison uses those AI audit reports, not Site audit crawls.
  • For an AI visibility comparison: prompts tracked for the domain in Brand visibility, run in two different periods. A snapshot only reads the answers recorded in its window.
  • For a competitor comparison: an audit of the competitor's page, or snapshots taken with the competitor's domain open on this page.

Step by step

  1. Open Progress reportsGo to AI search → Monitoring and reports → Progress reports. The page opens on one of your domains. To switch, type a domain in the yourclient.com box and click Open.
  2. Step 1: choose what to compareUnder What do you want to compare? pick Website audit (the SEO, AEO and GEO score of a page) or AI visibility (how AI assistants mention you).
  3. Step 2: choose what to compare withUnder Compare with pick An earlier report to see what improved over time, or A competitor to see who is ahead.
  4. Step 3: pick the two reportsUnder Choose the two reports, pick the older report on the left and the newer one on the right, or your report and the competitor's. If you're missing one, the box tells you what to do: Audit this page again, Run an audit, or Take a snapshot.
  5. Take AI visibility snapshots when neededClick Take a snapshot. Choose a Date (today or any past date), Use answers from the last 7, 14, 30, 60 or 90 days, and an optional Name such as "Before changes, October". Click Take snapshot. It's free and reads only answers you already have.
  6. Read the comparisonOnce both reports are picked, the comparison appears below. Start with Summary, a plain-language overview, then switch to Full detail for every check with both values, the change and its status.

How to read the result

StatusWhat it means
FixedWas failing, now passing.
ImprovedMoved in the right direction.
Passing / no changeGood in both reports, or the same value in both.
Still to doNot achieved in either report.
Regressed or declinedWas passing and now fails, or moved the wrong way.
Not measuredNot recorded in one of the reports. Not counted as a change.
Not comparableMeasured in both, but on different samples. Shown for reference, not counted.

In competitor mode the labels change to You lead, Behind, Level and Gap for both. A gap for both is an opening: neither site does it yet.

For AI visibility, the headline figures use only the questions and platforms checked in both snapshots. If one period ran 70 answers and the other 13, comparing raw totals would show false swings, so the report matches like for like and explains this under Data notes. Read those notes before you share anything. A rank of 0 means "not ranked", so moving from 0 to a rank isn't counted as a rank gain.

The AI visibility comparison also has an AI crawlers group. Despite the name, its numbers come from the AI bot tracker tag: AI-referred visits and AI agents that run JavaScript, not GPTBot or ClaudeBot crawls. A 0 there can simply mean the tag isn't installed.

A snapshot can't create data

If nobody ran the prompts during a snapshot's window, its AI metrics show as not measured, not zero. Data notes also warn when the newest answers are more than a week older than the snapshot date. Run your tracked prompts in Brand visibility first, then take the snapshot.

What it costs

Snapshots, comparisons and the PDF are free. The Run audit and Audit this page again buttons start a new AEO and GEO checker report, which costs credits. A confirmation dialog shows the price first. The dialog says "coins", the older name for credits. If the audit fails, those credits aren't refunded today. Fresh AI visibility data comes from running prompts in Brand visibility, which is priced there.

Take your baseline before you change anything

On day one of a project, audit the key pages and take a snapshot named "Baseline". Without a before, there's nothing to compare against later.

Check yourself

1. You take a snapshot for a month in which nobody ran the domain's prompts. What does the comparison show?
2. Your October snapshot has 70 AI answers and November has 13. How does the headline compare them?
3. Which action in Progress reports costs credits?

0 of 3 answered.
