Publish and track citations
Publish now or schedule, then manage weekly citation tracking.
In shortFrom the article editor, click Publish to CMS, choose a connected WordPress site or webhook, then Publish Now or Schedule a date and time. Publishing is free. When your site returns the live URL, or you paste it under Published URL, an article written from an Action plan brief gets weekly citation tracking: the prompt is re-run every seven days, at the normal engine price, to see whether AI engines start citing your page.
The last step: get it live and measure it
An article only helps once it is on your site, and you only learn whether it worked by checking if AI engines start citing it. The AI content writer handles both: it sends the finished article to your site through a webhook, and for articles written from an Action plan brief it can re-check the prompt every week and record when your page is cited.
Before you start
- A publishing connection. Connect WordPress with the plugin, or set up a custom webhook for any other CMS. The Publishing course covers both.
- Finished metadata. Check the meta title, slug, description and categories in SEO & AEO Metadata and click Save metadata. Those fields go out with the article.
- For tracking: an article started from an Action plan brief. Articles from a typed topic can be published but not tracked.
Publish now or schedule
- Open the publish panelIn the article editor, click Publish to CMS in the top bar. The page scrolls to the Publish Content card.
- Pick a webhookChoose a destination from Select a webhook.... Only active webhooks are listed. If none appear, the card says No active webhooks. Create one below to start publishing.
- Try a dry run firstClick Dry run to build and sign the exact request without sending it. Use it the first time you publish to a new destination.
- Publish or scheduleClick Publish Now to send immediately; you'll see Published successfully! or Publish failed: with the reason. Or click Schedule, choose a Schedule Date & Time in the future and confirm. Scheduled jobs are checked once a minute, so they go out within about a minute of the time you set.
- Check Publish HistoryPublish History below lists every job with its status. Open one to see Publish Log Details: status, scheduled time, response status, error, and the request, payload and response. A scheduled job can be cancelled here before it runs.
If your site is down, times out (including a 408), rate-limits (429) or returns a 5xx error, the publish is retried automatically after 1, 5 and 15 minutes, then marked failed. Any other 4xx response (bad key, wrong domain, missing route) is final, because sending it again would be rejected again. Fix the connection, then publish again.
Turn on weekly citation tracking
Tracking needs the live URL of the article. The WordPress plugin, and any receiver that returns the post URL, hands it back automatically: the article is marked published and tracking starts on its Action plan. Otherwise, add it yourself:
- Paste the published URLIn Citation & SEO scores, find Published URL (starts citation tracking), paste the full
https://address and click Save. - Open the tracking panelClick View tracking in Action Plan. The Citation tracking after publish card has a Weekly auto-check switch, a table of checks (When, Engine, Result, Run), and a Check citations now button for an immediate check.
Every seven days the prompt is re-run on the engines tracked for it, and each check records whether your published URL was among the citations. Any time you run that prompt yourself in Brand visibility, the result is recorded as a check too. This weekly re-check is the only automatic prompt re-check in AI Rank Lab, and it covers only Action plans with tracking switched on. Saving the published URL switches it on for you. Everything else in Brand visibility runs when you run it.
Saving the published URL, or a publish that returns it, switches Weekly auto-check on by itself, and the first check runs seven days later. Each weekly check costs the normal per-engine prompt price. If your balance is too low, the check is skipped and tried again the next day. Switch Weekly auto-check off to stop it. And it only works for articles written from an Action plan brief: saving a URL on a typed-topic article marks it published, but no tracking starts, even though the save message mentions tracking.
