Build a lead form
The form builder, embedding and where submissions go.
In shortThe Form builder (CRM and email → Leads → Form builder) defines a lead form: its fields, what happens after someone submits, and optional follow-up emails sent through your SMTP account after a delay you set. Every submission becomes a contact and appears in Form submissions with the pages that visitor saw. Capture only works on pages with the tracking tag and with Enable CRM Features switched on for that domain.
What a lead form is for
A lead form turns an anonymous visitor into a contact you can email. In AI Rank Lab the form and the CRM are connected: when someone submits, the person is added to (or updated in) Contacts, the submission is logged with the pages they visited, and any follow-up emails you set up are queued for them.
Use it for newsletter sign-ups, demo or quote requests, and gated downloads. If your site already has a form plugin you like, you can keep it, but its submissions won't land in Contacts.
Before you start
- The tracking tag installed on the page that will hold the form, and Enable CRM Features ticked for that domain in Setup → Tracking setup. See Set up tracking, CRM and SMTP.
- For follow-up emails: at least one email template and one active SMTP account. The builder won't let you add an email trigger without both.
Step by step
- Start a new formGo to CRM and email → Leads → Form builder and click New Form (or Build Form if you have none yet). The builder opens with two fields already in place, Full Name and Email Address, and a Live Visual Form Preview on the right.
- Name the form and set up fieldsUnder Form Basic Details, fill in Form Identifier Name; this is for you and shows in the submissions log. In Fields Architect, click Add Field for each extra question. For each field set the Field ID, Field Type (Text Input, Email address, Telephone number, Textarea Box, Dropdown Select, Checkbox toggle or Radio Options), Label Title and Placeholder. Dropdown and radio fields take Options (comma-separated).
- Choose what happens after submissionUnder On-Success Redirection & Scripts, pick Show Message and write the Success Message Content, or pick Redirect URL and enter a thank-you page. Developers can add a Success Script Callback or Error Script Callback in JavaScript.
- Add follow-up emails (optional)Under Automated Email Sequences, click Add Email Trigger. Set the Sender Name, Delay Hours, Email Subject, Select Template and SMTP Account. Each trigger sends one email to the new contact after its delay. Add several triggers for a short sequence.
- Save, then copy the embed codeClick Save and Deploy Form. Open the form again with Edit Field Setup and an Installation Embed Code box appears with the form's ID in a
data-crm-formattribute. - Put the form on your pageThe tracking tag captures submissions from any
<form>element that carriesdata-crm-form="your-form-id". It reads each input by itsname, so give every input the same name as its Field ID in the builder. Submission is sent to AI Rank Lab instead of reloading the page, and your success message or redirect runs. - Read submissionsGo to CRM and email → Leads → Form submissions. The Forms Submissions Log lists Timestamp, Form Name, Submitter Details, Location / IP and Last Visited Path. Open a row to see every field and the visitor's page history.
The snippet shown in the builder is a <div data-crm-form="…">. The tracking tag does not build a form inside that div; it only captures submissions from a <form> element that carries the attribute. Write the form in your page or site builder, add the attribute to the <form> tag, and name the inputs after your Field IDs. A form with no email input is rejected, because the email is what creates the contact.
What happens to each submission
- The email address finds or creates a contact. A name field fills the contact's name if it was empty. Other answers are saved as custom fields named after the field label.
- The submission is logged with the first page the visitor saw and their page history in that browser session.
- Each email trigger is queued and sent through your SMTP account once its delay has passed. Contacts who have unsubscribed are skipped.
Every save marks a form Active, and the builder has no pause switch today, so a form card normally shows Active. If submissions stop arriving, check that Enable CRM Features is still ticked for the domain and that your credit balance is above zero, because the tag stops when the balance reaches zero.
With CRM features on, the tag also notes email addresses typed into other forms on your site and attaches them to that visitor's session, which helps you put a name to a recording.
