In shortVisitors sent by ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini arrive with a specific question already half answered. To turn them into leads, find the pages AI assistants send people to, watch how those visitors behave, put a relevant next step on those pages, capture their details with a form, and follow up by email. In AI Rank Lab that chain uses the AI bot tracker, Session recordings, Heatmaps, the Form builder and Campaigns, all fed by one tracking tag.

Why AI-referred visitors are different

Someone who clicks through from an AI answer has usually read a summary of your page already. They come for a detail the answer didn't give: a price, a spec, a template, proof. If your page makes them scroll past a generic introduction to find it, they leave. If the next step matches the question they asked, they're often more ready to act than a typical search visitor.

So this playbook is about the landing page, not the traffic. You already have some AI visitors; the work is to see where they land, what they do, and to give them a reason to leave their email.

The workflow

  1. Make sure the tag is installed and fundedOpen AI search → Monitoring and reports → AI bot tracker and check the domain is verified. Verify can pass on a test visit AI Rank Lab creates itself, so also check your own page views appear. The same tag powers the CRM features below, so you install it once. It records visitors that run JavaScript, not crawlers. Cost: per 100 tracked requests; tracking pauses at a zero balance. Lesson: Read the AI bot tracker.
  2. Find the pages AI sends people toIn the AI bot tracker, use Overview & Sources for the assistants and referrers, and Page Analytics for the pages they land on. Pick the three pages with the most AI-referred visits. Cross-check in GA4 with a landing-page exploration filtered to AI sources. Cost: free to read. Lesson: Track AI referral traffic in GA4.
  3. Turn on session recording and heatmapsOpen CRM and email → Setup → Tracking setup, pick the domain and switch on Enable CRM Features, Record Sessions and Record Heatmaps. Recording only starts once it's on. Cost: recordings are charged per recorded session. Lesson: Set up tracking, CRM and SMTP.
  4. Watch visitors on those pagesOpen CRM and email → Visitor behaviour → Session recordings and use the Landing Page Path filter with the pages from step 2. There's no AI-source preset, so filter by landing page. Watch ten sessions: where they scroll, what they click, where they give up. Then check click and scroll maps in Heatmaps. Cost: watching is free; each recorded session was charged when it was recorded. Lessons: Session recordings, Heatmaps.
  5. Put the next step where they lookMove the detail AI visitors come for near the top, and add one offer that matches the question the page answers: a checklist, a calculator, a sample, a demo. One clear offer beats three generic buttons. Cost: none; this is page editing.
  6. Build a lead formOpen CRM and email → Leads → Form builder, add only the fields you need (an email is required), and click Save and Deploy Form. The Installation Embed Code gives the form's ID, but pasting that <div> alone shows nothing: write the form on your page yourself, add data-crm-form="your-form-id" to the <form> tag and name each input after its Field ID. The tracking tag then captures each submission, which creates or updates a contact; see them in Form submissions and Contacts. Cost: free. Lesson: Build a lead form.
  7. Send a welcome email automatically after sign-upIn the same form, under Automated Email Sequences, click Add Email Trigger and set Sender Name, Delay Hours, Email Subject and Select Template. It sends through your own SMTP account, so connect one in CRM and email → Setup → CRM and SMTP settings first. Build the template in CRM and email → Email campaigns → Email templates, by hand or with the AI generator. Cost: the AI template generator is charged per template. Lesson: Email templates.
  8. Follow up with a campaignOnce a few dozen leads have arrived, open CRM and email → Email campaigns → Campaigns, choose the list or tag, pick a template, send yourself a test and schedule it. Cost: charged per 50 emails for all recipients when sending starts; pausing doesn't refund. Lesson: Send an email campaign.

Which tool answers which question

QuestionTool
Which assistants send visitors, to which pages?AI bot tracker; GA4 exploration on session source
What do those visitors do on the page?Session recordings filtered by landing page; Heatmaps
How many leave their details?Form submissions and Contacts
Do they open the follow-up?The campaign report
Recordings cost per session, and need consent

Turning on Record Sessions charges each recorded session, so on a busy site the cost adds up. Switch it on while you investigate and off when you've seen enough. Recording visitors is personal data in many countries: check your cookie banner and privacy policy cover it before you enable it.

Paused campaigns keep their credits

Campaign credits are taken for every recipient when sending starts. Pausing or deleting a campaign part-way does not return the unsent share, so send yourself a test first.

Check yourself

1. How do you find recordings of AI-referred visitors in Session recordings?
2. What happens to credits if you pause an email campaign half-way?
3. What must you set up before a form's automated welcome email can send?

This playbook shows you how to turn visitors sent by AI assistants into leads. Someone who clicks through from ChatGPT or Perplexity has usually read a summary of your page already. They come for a detail the answer didn't give. A price, a spec, a template, proof. If your page buries that detail, they leave. If the next step matches their question, they're often ready to act. So this playbook is about the landing page, not the traffic. Step one. Check the AI bot tracker is installed and verified. The same tag powers the CRM features, so you only install it once. It tracks visitors that run JavaScript, not crawlers, and it pauses if your balance hits zero. Step two. In the AI bot tracker, look at Overview and Sources for the assistants, and Page Analytics for the pages they land on. Pick your top three pages. Step three. In CRM and email, Tracking setup, turn on CRM features, session recording and heatmaps for the domain. Recording only starts once it's on, and each recorded session costs credits. Step four. In Session recordings, filter by landing page path with your three pages. There's no AI preset, so the landing page is how you find them. Watch ten sessions. Where do they scroll? What do they click? Where do they give up? Then look at the heatmaps. Step five. Move the detail they come for near the top, and add one offer that matches the page's question. Step six. Set up a short form in the Form builder and save and deploy it. The embed snippet on its own shows nothing, so build the form on your page, add the form ID attribute to the form tag, and name the inputs after the field IDs. Each submission becomes a contact. Step seven. In the same form, add an email trigger, so new leads get a welcome email after a delay you choose. It sends through your own SMTP account, so connect one first. Step eight. When you have a few dozen leads, send a campaign to them. Send yourself a test first. Campaign credits are charged for everyone when sending starts, and pausing doesn't refund them. One more thing. Recording visitors is personal data in many places, so make sure your cookie banner and privacy policy cover it. And switch recording off when you've seen enough. In the next playbook, you'll set up a thirty-minute weekly routine.
