Session recordings
Turn recording on, replay sessions and what each one costs.
In shortSession recordings replay a real visitor's visit to your site: where they clicked, how far they scrolled and where they gave up. Switch on Record Sessions for the domain in CRM and email → Setup → Tracking setup, then watch replays in Visitor behaviour → Session recordings. Each recorded session costs credits, charged once when it becomes playable. Replays are kept for 30 days.
What recordings are for
Analytics tell you that people leave your pricing page. A recording shows you why: the button they clicked that did nothing, the form field that rejected their phone number, the section they scrolled past. Watch a handful of recordings of a page before you redesign it, and again after.
Recordings are most useful for visitors who arrived from AI answers or paid ads, for sessions that ended on a form without submitting, and for anyone who later became a lead, because a form submission links the email address to the session.
Before you start
- The tracking tag on your site. See Set up tracking, CRM and SMTP.
- Record Sessions ticked for the domain under CRM and email → Setup → Tracking setup, then Save Script Setup. It is off by default on every domain.
- A credit balance of at least one credit. Below that, new recordings don't start.
- A privacy check: tell visitors in your privacy policy that you record sessions, and mark anything sensitive (see the tip below).
Step by step
- Open Session recordingsGo to CRM and email → Visitor behaviour → Session recordings. The page is titled Recordings and shows the domain selected in the switcher. Four cards sum up the current filter: Filtered Sessions, Avg Session Time, Form Conversion and High Intent / Rage.
- Widen the filtersBy default the list shows only the Last 24 hours and Unplayed sessions, and your choice is remembered in this browser. Change Date to Last 7 days, Last 30 days or All time, and Status to All status, if you expected more.
- Find the sessions worth watchingUse a preset such as Organic traffic, Paid traffic, Mobile users, Returning users, Error occurred or Rage clicked. Search by email, session ID or URL, or open Advanced Filters for Landing Page Path, Device Type and Country Code. Sort your attention by Relevance.
- Play a recordingClick Play on a row. The player opens full screen. Use the timeline to jump, Previous action and Next action to step through clicks and inputs, and Skip inactivity to jump over idle stretches. The side panel shows Session info and the pages in the visit. Previous recording and Next recording move through your filtered list; Esc goes back.
- Export the listShare / Export downloads the filtered sessions as a CSV with email, country, device, duration, pages, landing and exit page and relevance.
How to read relevance and rage
| Label | How it is decided |
|---|---|
| High | 30 or more actions, 3 or more pages, 5 minutes or longer, or a form was submitted |
| Moderate | 8 or more actions, 2 pages, or a minute or longer |
| Low | Everything else |
| Rage clicked | Sessions with 20 or more clicks in total |
These are simple counting rules, not a judgement of intent. "Rage clicked" in particular counts all clicks in a session, so a long, busy visit can land there without any frustration. Watch the replay before you draw a conclusion.
The visual replay is deleted 30 days after the visit. The visitor details (pages, device, location) stay. If a recording matters, for example as evidence of a bug, note what you saw or capture it before then.
Every visitor session on a domain with Record Sessions on is billed. On a busy site, switch it on for a week, watch what you need, and switch it off again.
Password, email and phone (tel) inputs are masked automatically. Card-number fields are not: HTML has no card input type, so a card field on your own page is recorded as typed unless it sits inside your payment provider's iframe or carries data-crm-block. Add data-crm-block to payment forms and anything else that shouldn't be recorded at all. data-crm-mask hides other text on the page, but not what visitors type into inputs.
